Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in strength within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the party enter places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Questers and Planners tables.
Fans can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
